WELCOME TO OUR FAQ

Here Are Our Most Frequently Asked Questions.

Airbrush can be really scary when you are beginning and bad information can ruin it before you start. If you have any questions, fill in the form below and we will do our best to give you the advise that will help you progress.

Why Use An Airbrush?2023-09-07T00:04:53+01:00

The airbrush applies paint/ink in a controllable even manner, so the user can create a blended gradation of colour or an even film without striping that occurs when using a brush.

Will 1 Airbrush Do Everything?2023-09-07T00:03:32+01:00

No, Airbrushes and Spray Guns are designed for a specific function but you can interchange needles and nozzles for more detailed work or block colouring. Before you buy an Airbrush, understand what you want from it. If you working on a small scale, you will need a smaller nozzle/needle set up and want a colour cup on top of the Airbrush. If it is for larger block areas you may be better off with a suction feed Airbrush and a bigger nozzle/needle set up.

Do I Need Any Other Equipment?2023-09-07T00:02:12+01:00

Yes, an Airbrush is useless without an air supply (Compressor). Also an insufficient air supply can be just as bad. Some equipment and methods use more air than others. Large block areas of colour will require more air, an insufficient air supply will cause a patchy finish.

What Is The Best Form Of Masking?2023-09-07T00:01:34+01:00

Different masking processes give different results, so the desired effect will usually dictate what form of mask you use. Free hand shields are quick, but can leave a soft edge and will not conform to curved surfaces easily. Any taped or film mask stuck to the surface will leave hard defined edge, even if you don’t spray close to it the overspray will leave an edge.

Do I Need Different Paints For Custom Paintwork?2023-09-07T00:00:39+01:00

Not for the artwork or base colour. But some paints such as the Dr P H Martins Hydrus watercolour we sell is not recommended for Custom Paint because it prefers to soak into the media, on a hard surface it remains tacky. So always confirm the properties of a paint before you purchase. We do sell Water based Clearcoats but these are not intended for hard wearing Automotive finishes, it is always best to have a professional finish off the panels with a solvent automotive clearcoat.
